It can be frustrating when you are in a makeup rut. You tend to wear the same products everyday and because you’ve done this for so long, you don’t always feel comfortable trying out new looks. I want to encourage you to try a new look. Even if it’s just changing a liner, blush or eyeshadow. This post is also geared towards women who don’t really wear a lot of makeup but want to try something different. Having the basic products available will allow you to do an easy, simple makeup look.
Here are a few of my favorite ways to give yourself a little update!
1. Blush
I change my blush daily. If you always wear the same pink blush, why not try out a new color? Adding a new color is a great way to instant brighten up your face. Maybe add a touch of bronzer to the face? Why not try a cream blush instead of your regular powder blush? I find that cream blushes last a lot longer on the face. I’d like to also encourage a cheek stain for the adventurous ones. I Love Benefit products because they offer at least three different stains that can be used on the lips or the cheeks. You apply three small dots with the brush on the apples of your cheeks and blend. It doesn’t get anymore simple than that!
2. Eyes
This is probably the one area on the face that I see so many people do the same look over and over again. Your look might work for you, but have some fun and change things up a bit! A lot of people forget that by just adding a new color, it can change your look so much. Different colors look better with certain eye shades. I have blue eyes, so I know that when I wear browns, blues and gold tones, my eyes really stand out! Physicians Formula makes some great eyeshadow kits based on eye color! No one is saying you have to do a dramatic smokey look (I’d give it a shot though, its fun!) but change up a color and see what happens. How about trying a golden brown for fall? Even switching out black eyeliner for a dark brown or dark navy blue can really make a big change!
3. Lips
Oh how I love lipstick, lip gloss, lip stain. You get the picture. I play up my lips. There are so many colors out there to choose from now, I can see how it’s overwhelming to some. I say go play! Go to a makeup counter or drugstore and have fun. Ask for a sample. You will never know what something looks like on you until you try it. I have had colors recommend to me that I would have never picked out myself. Some of those colors are now my favorite. If you already have a lip color you love, why not add a touch of gloss? The companies how now even added tinted lip balm to their product lines. You are getting the SPF benefits and it moisturizes your lips at the same time. Most of these products don’t have a huge amount of color to them, but just enough. It’s a good way to introduce color to your lips if you don’t currently wear anything. I am a huge fan of Fresh Lip Balms. The best I have ever used! Burt’s Bee’s also has some great color choices and I know they can be found just about anywhere.
4. Mascara
Not all mascara is created the same. There are different colors to choose from, lengthening, volumizing, fibers, tubes and different brushes. Sometimes I’ll use a brown mascara and not black. I’ll even add a gold mascara to bring out the color of my eyes. You can find these products anywhere anymore. If you have small lashes with no volume, like I do, then try out a mascara that will give you length and make sure to curl your lashes! If you’d like to really change your length, try some false lashes! If you have killer long lashes, play up the color! I will not walk out the door with at least having mascara on my face. It’s the one product that makes me feel put together.
5. Brow Color
Not everyone adds color to their brows, but what a dramatic difference it makes to the face! All you need to do is find a color that matches your hair and apply to the brows. BE CAREFUL to not pick a color to dark or too light. They make brow pencils, brow gels and brow kits. Sometimes I use a pencil, but others I’ll just use an eyeshadow that matches my brows. I first brush and groom my brows with an eyebrow brush. Then, starting at the corner of the brow using an eyebrow brush or an angled brush, make small upward strokes. When I applied makeup to clients, this was the first thing they would notice on their face after a makeover.
6. Foundation
Guess what ladies, fall is here! So long to that summer glow! That probably means that it’s time to switch up your foundation color or the type of foundation you are using. With cooler temperatures coming, I am needing more moisturizing foundations. I can also start using foundations that give me a nice glow since I’m not sweating as much when outdoors. A good product to try would be a BB Cream or a CC Cream. Makeup has come a long way and technology has advanced so much. A BB Cream is a great product for anyone wanting different products all in one product. It moisturizes, primes the face, controls oil, adds color and gives you SPF protection. It’s very similar to a tinted moisturizer, but it does a lot more! A CC Cream is going to correct any skin tone issues you are having and help with signs of aging. It’s going to give you all the same benefits a BB Cream would, but with added ingredients. I have heard a lot about the Oil Of Olay and the Chanel creams in particular.
Have you ever tried a mineral makeup? People swear by these products and the application is very simple. People who suffer from acne and skin sensitivities love mineral makeup because it’s allowing their skin to breath and some offer ingredients to help skin issues.
It’s hard being in a makeup rut, but it can be stopped! I dare you to try to change just one part of your look and see what happens! Always remember makeup should be fun! It should never seem difficult or frustrating! If you are having any problems or have a question for me, let me know! I’ll be more than happy to help guide you in the right direction.
Here is a four step process you can see of me getting ready. You can look in each picture and see that just by changing one thing can really change your look!
