November 2019 Reading List

I sat down to write my November 2019 Reading List post and realized that I only read two books in November! Just like last month, I just didn’t get a chance to read as much as I wanted AND as I’ve been reading Little Women, it’s pretty much taken up all of my reading time as it’s a lengthy read. Oh well, I still did read which is what I want.

Little Women

I started Little Women for our Influenced The Podcast December Book Club episode and if you’ve read Little Women, then you know it isn’t the shortest read. It’s also a rather long and drawn out read. At least it was for me. I struggled through parts of it, but other parts I really loved about the story. I kept having to remind myself that this was published in 1868 and 1869 and that parts of the storyline were because of that time period.

The story, originally written in two parts, tells the story of the March Sisters and their childhood all the way to adulthood. I’ve now read this book twice and I feel like my thoughts on it change as I’ve read it now as an adult. It’s not just a story of sisters, but also of relationships, and life in general.

Have you read Little Women? It’s a classic and while it is a pretty large book, I suggest reading it at least once. It’s interesting to see the life of women back in the late 1800’s and how life changed when men went to war, etc. Also, the bond between sisters is the heart of this story.

I’d love to know what you thought of the book. Did Amy annoy you as much as she annoyed me? What were your thoughts on Laurie? What did you think of Aunt March? Is this book still relevant for today’s society?

Wild Game: My Mother, Her Lover, and Me

This book was absolutely an incredible read. This was our pick for the November Book Club for Influenced The Podcast and I’m so glad that we chose it. It read like a fiction, but at times, I had to remind myself that this was someone’s life!

Wild Game: My Mother, Her Lover, and Me tells the story of Adrienne and how her life changes one night after her mother confides in her that another man kissed her. What happens next is literally a WILD story about a complicated mother/daughter relationship and how this child ends up at the center of this affair.

This book is incredible and one of my favorite reads from 2019. I highly suggest adding it to your to-be-read list as it’s fantastic. It’s full of family drama, laugh out loud moments, and you have to keep reminding yourself that this isn’t a work of fiction. Honestly, do yourself a favor and read this book!

I’ll have more books to discuss in December! I’ve already read a total of three and it’s only December 9th! Woo Hoo! Also, I think I’m going to do a best of 2019 for books! I’d love to know what some of your favorites would be!
