I’m sharing all of the beauty products I purchased in May and my thoughts on them! It’s mostly skincare with a few makeup products thrown into the mix as well. In May, my skin decided to have a little rosacea flareup, so I had to stock up on some products to help improve my skin barrier and a few other goodies.
Did you miss the post where I shared all of the “unsexy” products I swear by? These are products that maybe aren’t the most heavily marketed or don’t have fancy packaging, BUT they are some of the best products I always have on hand. Check out the post and let me know what you would add!
The Makeup and Skincare Products I Purchased
I didn’t buy anything really that *fun” this month, but it was more shopping to restock items I was out of or a couple of new-to-me products I wanted to try. I’ve been cutting way back on my beauty splurges because I have also significantly decreased the amount of makeup and skincare I’m using. I’m now to a point where we’re just using basics for the most part and I’m ok with that.
Skincare Items I Purchased
Naturium Purple Ginseng Cleansing Balm
I ran out of my cleansing balm I had been using and decided to pick up the Naturium one at Target to try. It’s affordable and I’ve really liked what I’ve tried from the brand. It’s under $20.00 and free from fragrances, etc. Plus, I love that it’s a balm texture as those tend to be my favorite for a first cleanse.
Now, for context, right around this time is when my rosacea flared up, so I’m not sure if this was the best time to try this product. Since my skin was in freak out mode, I decided to stop all new products and only use the basics that I know don’t irritate my skin. So I do plan to start incorporating this back into my routine as my first cleanser.
Final Verdict: Will give it another try soon and report back
Dieux Instant Angel Lipid-Rich Barrier Repair Cream with Ceramides
I was shopping in Sephora recently and decided to (finally) pick up this barrier repair cream moisturizer from Dieux. This skincare brand is a very popular one on social media, but I had never actually tried it. Now that it was in an actual Sephora store, I finally remembered I wanted to give this a shot. This was during my rosacea flareup. FYI.
This is a great moisturizer for those of us who have a bit more sensitive skin types. It’s hydrating, but it doesn’t make my skin feel greasy, so it’s perfect for under makeup. One of the biggest reasons I picked up this moisturizer is because of the actual ingredients: lipids, squalene, glycerin, urea, and more. It’s packed with ingredients that will help your skin barrier (something I need) and also help to plump and hydrate the skin. Do be careful if you tend to break out from coconut alkanes as I have read that this can be an issue.
Final Verdict: I really enjoy this product a lot.
Tree Hut Shave Oil and Scrub
I am so in love with Tree Hut and their products. They’re so budget friendly and you can’t go wrong with their shave oil in my opinion. It’s now the only shave product I use. The scrubs are also fantastic and even my husband uses them. The Tropic Glow scent gives me Sol de Janeiro vibes without the huge cost.
Tree Hut Shave Oil is a gel-to-oil formula. It’s not messy to apply and I think it’s also hydrating as well. I vary scents that I use, but I do love the Tropic Glow.
Tree Hut Tropic Glow Firming Body Scrub is so, so good. It features Shea Butter, Cupuaçu Butter, Pistachio Oil, Avocado Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Macadamia Oil, Orange Oil and Safflower. Bottom line: It’s hydrating and leaves my skin feeling amazingly soft. I like to use this before I shave.
Final Verdict: A brand I love. I’ll always repurchase.
The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Cream
Azelaic Acid is a new product I’ve startd using in my skincare routine to help combat my redness from rosacea. Not only is Azelaic Acid good for redness, but it’s also great for acne, hyperpigmentation, UV damage, and helping to improve skin texture.
This is not a prescription strength formula, but I wanted to give this a shot before I went with a prescription from my dermatologist. This Azelaic Acid Cream is 10%. It can be used twice a day and can be used in conjunction with your Vitamin C serums and Retinol.
I use a very small amount (size of a pea) and dot on my face and work into my skin. I allow five minutes before moving forward with other skincare ingredients. So far, I have noticed that it does help with my redness….slightly, BUT it has only been about a month since I have incorporated this into my skincare routine. They recommend 3 months (as with most skincare products.)
Final Verdict: I’ll continue to use this and report back in a couple of months
eos Vanillia Cashmere Shea Better Lotion
This lotion smells amazing and I find that it leaves behind a fragrance that I can smell throughout the day. This is a very gourmand fragrance (vanilla, caramel, and musk) and my husband says he thinks it smells like waffle cones? I think it goes great with my usual Baccarat fragrance that I wear. It’s hydrating, but not greasy at all and I don’t find it to be heavy. I really love this lotion.
Final Verdict: Smells incredible and leaves my skin so soft. Heck. Yes.
Dr.Jart+ Sheet Masks
I swear by D.Jart+ Sheet Masks. To me, they are superior to so many other sheet masks I’ve tried. I actually see results with these and I always have them on hand. I just picked up a couple of the Cicapair Sensitive Skin Serum Face Mask for Redness. This sheet mask is soaked in good-for-you skincare ingredients like tiger grass, niacinamide, and others. It’s so good for sensitive skin. I feel like it’s cooling and it just does a fantastic job of hydrating and calming my skin.
I feel like you can’t go wrong with any of their sheet masks. They have masks for different skin concerns.
Final Verdict: A true ride-or-die product for me.
Fragrances That I Purchased
Maison Margiela Beach Walk
I absolutely love the Beach Walk perfume by Maison Margiela. It’s my go-to summer fragrance. It’s subtle, but present. It just smells so clean. I think it’s the perfect summer fragrance. The notes on the fragrance are creamy coconut, ylang ylang, white musk, and bergamot. It really is the perfect fragrance.
Final Verdict: 100% always a yes.
Makeup That I Purchased
Sephora Best Skin Ever Multi-Use Hydrating Glow Concealer
I follow someone on TikTok who recommended this product. I wish I could remember who, BUT I had it on my list to pick up when I was in Sephora. I just ran out of my trusted Hourglass Concealer, which I love and recommend, BUT I wanted to give the Sephora brand a try.
The Glow Concealer is very creamy, hydrating, and offers a medium coverage. It’s under $20.00 and it’s fantastic. I bought one in a lighter shade and one that matches my under eye shade. I love the radiant finish and am VERY impressed.
Final Verdict: It’s one of the best concealers I’ve used in a long time.
Fenty Beauty Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint
I purchased this skin tint last year and finally ran out of product. It was included on my best beauty products of 2023 blog post. It offers a light to medium coverage and I find that it lasts even on super hot and humid days. It’s not heavy and I think it’s so easy to blend onto the skin. I wear shade 6, which somehow works perfectly for me when I have a bit of color. I liked this product so much, I even picked up their Skin Tint Stick to try as well. I’ll report back on that one soon!
Final Verdict: It’s a must-have
