May Reading List
Book Lovers by Emily Henry
Emily Henry did it again with Book Lovers. It’s everything I wanted and more. I loved People We Meet on Vacation and Beach Read so, so much. Book Lovers (in my opinion) was even better than both of those. It’s a book for those who love reading, cozy bookstores, the bonds of sisterhood, and finding your true self.
I devoured this book in a day basically thanks to the audiobook that’s narrated by my girl Julia Whelan. She is the BEST narrator and brings so much life to these characters. Somehow her voice just gives that much more to the story and wow, this time she nailed it!
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Trigger Warnings: Death of a loved one, Grief, Pregnancy
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Absolute perfection)
Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score
Things in this book: Runaway bride, grumpy sunshine, cool parents, gay best friend, adorable dog, small town vibes, rich guy who’s also insanely good looking, single “mom” and more.
This was a bookstagram made me do it read and it was good. It does have some pretty spicy scenes so if that isn’t your thing, don’t read this one. Overall it was just ok to me. I read it very quickly and it passed the time just fine.
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Trigger Warnings: Abandonment, Domestic Abuse, Addition, Child Abduction, Kidnapping, Gun Violence
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Every Summer After by Carley Fortune
This book has exploded on social media this summer. It’s all over booktok and bookstagram. So obviously, I had to give it a read! This is an easy read that went pretty fast and I enjoyed it. I do think this was a great debut novel for the author. While I did think the twist was pretty predictable, it still didn’t take away anything from me not enjoying the story at all.
Genre: Second-chance romance, small town vibes, friends to lovers
Trigger Warnings: Death of a loved one, Infidelity, Cancer, Grief, Panic Attacks
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
In A New York Minute by Kate Spencer
You get laid off from your job very unexpectedly. You carry your belongings to the subway to go home. Your dress gets stuck in the subway door and rips. “Mr Hot Suit” offers his suit jacket and saves the day. At least you can make it home without everyone seeing your butt. So you think that it’s over after that. Wrong. Somehow you and Mr. Hot Suit end up on social media because someone thought they saw a romantic moment happening and talked about it on social media. You ended up going viral.
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Trigger Warnings: Death of a parent, medical content, pregnancy
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Funny You Should Ask by Elissa Sussman
I heard that this had The Idea of You vibes so I immediately requested an advanced copy of it. Thankfully, my wish was granted! I guess I sort of understand why people would say that it’s similar to The Idea of You, BUT, it’s not exactly the same. Yes, this involves a total hottie celeb and a “normal” person interacting. She’s a journalist tasked with interviewing a hollywood hunk. I don’t want to give anything away, but it’s a good read and I was glad that I went into it totally blind.
Overall I enjoyed this book.
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Trigger Warnings: Alcoholism, Addiction, Death of a parent
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
