Let’s chat about skincare products I like from the drugstore. I’ve always said that good skincare products don’t have to cost a fortune. Sure, there are times when medical-grade skincare products will give you better results because of the ingredients and formulation. However, not everyone 1.) Has those needs 2.) Can afford such products. I myself use a combination of high-end, medical-grade, and a mixture of drugstore skincare products. I’ve tested a lot of products and these are the drugstore products I really enjoy using.
What order should you use your skincare products?
CeraVe
I think this is one of the best drugstore skincare brands available. No matter if you have dry skin, combo skin, or a sensitive skin type. This product line offers a great assortment of good, quality products. Here are some of my favorite products from the brand.
Skin Renewing Cream
This nighttime moisturizing product contains ceramides and peptides, so it’s hydrating, while also helping to replenish the skin’s barrier. Did I mention it also contains Niacinamide?!? It’s so good. This is what I’ve been using recently because my skin has been dry and my rosacea has popped in to say hello.
It’s thick, it’s wonderful, and it can be hard to find in stock. So if you see it, grab one!
Hyaluronic Acid Serum
This serum is great for dry to normal skin types. The formula features Ceramides and Hyaluronic Acid, which are both amazing for hydrating and repairing the skin’s barrier. Most hyaluronic acid products are very liquidy, but this serum is very much like a lightweight lotion.
MY ONE TIP for this product to work properly is to apply to damp skin. Hyaluronic Acid is like a magnet for moisture. So you need to have your skin damp (I like to spray my skin with this spring water) in order to get the benefits from a product like this.
Hydrating Facial Cleanser
This cleanser is so, so good. If you have dry skin, this is one to try! It features hyaluronic acid and ceramides. It has a lotion consistency, so this one doesn’t foam. Wet the skin, then appy. You can use this on your face and your body. I love this one when my skin is really dry. I don’t use this to remove makeup, but if you do only want to use one cleanser, I’d opt for this cleanser as it foams a bit. Both cleansers clean my skin, but don’t strip my skin of moisture.
PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion
This is a lightweight, oil-free moisturizing lotion that works great. Again, this formula features niacinamide, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid. So it’s hydrating, but not heavy. I enjoy this moisturizer so much that I also use this during the day as well. Yes, there is a specific AM Moisturizing Lotion (features an SPF) but I think the PM lotion works great since I already use a separate sunscreen.
Moisturizing Cream
I love this moisturizing cream for my body, as well as for my face when it’s really dry. Also, I really enjoy using this as a hand cream. It’s very thick and creamy, so if you don’t like a thick cream, this is NOT the product for you. I use this right out of the shower-on my face if it is dry and irritated and on my body. This is so good for the feet also!
La Roche-Posay
This brand is AMAZING for sensitive skin types, but I know several friends who have both dry and oily skin, and they love this product line. as well. A bit more on the higher priced of drugstore products, BUT I can’t complain one bit because the results speak for themselves. INCREDIBLE product line. Their Effaclar line is outstanding for acne related issues.
Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer with Niacinamide
This oil-free prebiotic moisturizer is incredible. It helps to soothe the skin and repair the skin’s barrier within an hour. It’s ideal for dry, normal, and sensitive skin types. It features their thermal spring water, which is another product I love and use on its own. Ceramides, Niacinamide, and Glycerin help to hydrate the skin and protect and repair the skin’s barrier. It’s oil-free and fragrance-free.
This is a cream formula that can be used day and night. There is a lotion formula that contains an SPF. I’ve used both. I think I prefer the cream formula, but still like the other product as well.
Toleriane Ultra Face Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin
When my skin is really inflamed, this is a great moisturizer. It contains Neurosensine Dipeptide, which helps to soothe the skin. It also contains Shea Butter, which is soothing and restoring. The packaging is incredible and has a Hermetic Seal. That means that it pumps out the product, but closes immediately. It doesn’t allow outside contaminants to get inside the product.
This is a go-to for sensitive skin. It’s very lightweight, but it helps so much to calm my skin!
Thermal Spring Water
I bought this, not really assuming it would do much, but I was very wrong. This is so good for redness and sensitivity. I’ve even used this if I got too much sun. I spray this on my face after I cleanse my skin and before applying hyaluronic acid. I use this during the day to help soothe my skin. It’s incredible.
The formula contains Selenium, which is a powerful antioxidant. It’s mineral-rich (salts and trace elements) that provide intense soothing.
Micellar Cleansing Water
This is a face cleanser and a makeup remover that soothes, hydrates, and cleanses. I love this micellar water and use it daily. I’ve used a lot of different micellar waters and this is one of my go-to’s. It removes makeup, especially mascara. I even use this as a toner, after cleansing. It doesn’t freak out my sensitive skin, BUT it is important to note that there is fragrance in this. Why, I’m not sure. It’s not super heavy, BUT, it’s still there.
Anthelios Mineral Tinted Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid SPF 50
Mineral sunscreen with Titanium Dioxide Broad Spectrum SPF 50. This is oil-free, fast absorbing, and leaves a matte finish. I like this just as much as other more expensive SPF’s that I’ve used that are tinted. I like to use a product like this to obviously get SPF protection, BUT I like that it is slightly tinted. It evens out my skin just a bit.
Naturium
This is a new-to-me brand that I’ve been really impressed with so far. I plan on introducing several new products into my routine as I finish some other products. I’m really curious about several of their products including:
- Niacinamide Gel Cream
- Hyaluronic Acid Essence
- Fermented Camellia Cleansing Oil
- Niacinamide Cleansing Gelée
- They also carry body washes and have a lot of different formulas to choose from!
Azelaic Topical Acid 10%
This has been such a great product for sensitive skin. It’s helped with my redness so much. If you struggle with rosacea, I can’t recommend this enough! It helps to calm and soothe the skin, as well as helping with acne, melasma, and dark spots. I started out using about twice a week and worked my way up. It does take a bit to see the effects of using this product, so stick with it.
Aveeno
Calm and Restore Nourishing Oat Cleanser
This is such a good cleanser because it’s not only gentle, but but it also calms and hydrates the skin. I love to use this as my second cleanser at night and my husband uses it as well. It’s a simple cleanser, in the best way possible. A cream cleanser that consistently impresses me!
Calm and Restore Oat Gel Moisturizer
If you have sensitive skin, this is for you. It’s unscented, and it helps to calm the skin, as well as moisturizing the skin. It’s not heavy and it’s fragrance-free. SO GOOD. If you are struggling with finding a moisturizer that will calm your skin, that also isn’t heavy, BUT still moisturizes your skin….this is the one you want!
Neutrogena
Hydro Boost Gel-Cream
I love this moisturizer when my skin is really dry! It’s lightweight, BUT it doesn’t lack in hydration at all. It does feature Hyaluronic Acid and it’s fragrance-free! I have tried the Gel version of this, but it’s scented, SO it’s a no-go for me because of my sensitive skin.
This is such an amazing moisturizer that I love to use in the summertime. I’ll keep it refrigerated and it feels amazing on my skin. This can be used year-round, obviously. I cleanse, tone, treat, and then apply this!
Rapid Wrinkle Repair Regenerating Cream
This is fragrance-free and incredible for those looking for a good anti-aging moisturizer. If you’re looking for a moisturizer to help plump your skin, and also to help with fine lines and wrinkles. This is a moisturizer that you need to gradually work your way up to using twice a day. You might also experience redness, stinging, and flaking. THIS IS TOTALLY NORMAL.
I’ve also been meaning to pick up another Rapid Wrinkle Eye Repair Cream. I used this back in the day and stopped. I’m going to give it another go and see how it works! I’ve been noticing some dark eye circles happening again and the eye cream I was using was $$$$. I remember really liking this, so we’ll see. Obviously I’ll report back!

I love La Roche-Posay! Never had an issue with any of their products.
Every CeraVe product I have ever tried has given me cystic acne, and beyond like a purge scenario. My derm said it is just not compatible and I am one of the unlucky ones LOL

UGH!!!!! Sometimes our skin just doesn’t like certain brands. I have this same issue with some really popular skincare brands people love!
