It’s time to share what I read in May and overall, it was such a good month of reading. I read a thriller which doesn’t happen often and I enjoyed it! I also got some romantsy, enemies-to-lovers reading in and honestly, you can’t go wrong with that! If you’re looking for a summer beach read, I’ve got the book for you!

This Summer Will Be Different by Carley Fortune
I’m calling This Summer Will Be Different THE summer beach read. This book made me want to pack a bag and head to Prince Edward Island, stat. It has romance, will-they, won’t-they vibes, found family, best friend’s brother, and so much more. This is my favorite Carley Fortune book so far.

Powerless by Lauren Roberts
I finally gave in and started the Powerless series by Lauren Roberts. I have seen this book EVERYWHERE on social media and since I do love a good fantasy/magical book, I thought why not. A forbidden romance between a Prince and an “ordinary” sounds right up my alley. Now, just so you know, this is a YA so there is no 🌶️ but there is a lot of chemistry.
I enjoyed this book and I already pre-ordered the second book which releases this July. I always give the author a chance on book 2 (unless the first was horrible) because sometimes in fantasy/magical series, the first book is setting up the plot and giving us some world building.

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
My niece sent me a text message and asked if I had read this book. It has been sitting on my shelf for quite some time (it happens) and I thought why not read it? My niece loved it and I’m always down for a new book recommendation.
I don’t read a ton of thrillers BUT every once in a while I dabble into one. This was a good book overall. A woman is accused of murdering her husband and is sent away to an institution. She’s also been silent ever since her husband’s murder. I saw a few of the twists coming, but there were parts that I wasn’t expecting. So I’d consider that a good book.

Good Material by Dolly Alderton
Another book that had been on my shelf for quite some time. I’m trying to get better about picking those up and reading them. Will I stop buying books randomly because I have so many already? Not a chance. Ha. My goal is to read one new book and then one from my shelves.
Andy and Jen were in love and then, the relationship ended and Andy is crushed. He’s trying to figure out what happened. I really enjoyed that this story was told from a male perspective going through a breakup. We don’t normally see this in books. The writing was funny and clever. There were moments when I laughed non-stop, but it also has moments when it reminds you of what it was like going through a really hard breakup. I also loved Jen’s pov in the last few chapters.
This book has stuck with me. I really enjoyed it.
