A LOT of people ask me if I get my brows Microbladed and the answer is no. I’ve thought about it, BUT a good brow tint (and shaping) really takes care of what I need. So why do I get my eyebrows tinted? What is an eyebrow tint? I’m going to take you through my whole routine and share with you my before and after. Let me show you what a difference a good brow wax and brow tint can do for your complexion.

What is a Brow Tint
Brow tinting is essentially just coloring your natural brow hairs. Plus, brow tinting is simple and pain-free! It takes less than a half hour (with a brow shaping session) and I’m out the door! It’s so simple and pain-free that I almost fall asleep every single time. My aesthetician applies a tint to my brow area (basically paints them on with a brush) and she lets them process. The longer they’re on, the darker the color. It’s very quick and the tint doesn’t sting or burn my skin at all. It’s honestly just like getting your hair colored.
For me, I choose to tint my brows because I need to darken my natural brow hairs because I have super blonde hair. By darkening my natural brow hairs, it helps to create a fuller brow. My brow specialist uses some sort of magic touch because she is able to create the illusion of perfect brows that are fuller, and it helps fill in areas where I might not have had a lot of hair before. I really struggle with my ends not having a lot of hair. After tinting, they just magically look perfect. It’s incredible.
How Long Does a Brow Tint Last
One of the biggest questions I get asked is how long does my brow tint actually last? It really depends on the individual and what they’re doing to their complexion. Most of the time I get about four-five weeks out of my tint. I try really hard to maintain them and around week six I definitely need a re-touch.
I am very careful around the brow area. My aesthetician applies a pretty deep tint to my brows (I’ve even heard of people getting a double tint) so it’s really dark at first, but as it fades a bit, the color is perfect. This also helps it last longer.
Brow Tint Maintenance:
- After your brow tint, don’t touch your brows for at least 12 hours (I don’t wash mine until a full 24 hours after my appointment)
- Don’t get your brows wet after your brow tint for at least 12 hours or longer. (No swimming ,etc)
- Avoid oil-based cleansers. Use a gel or a cream cleanser. Oil-based products will strip the color from your brows quicker. (Read my suggestions for cleansers!)
- I try to avoid anything that exfoliates directly around my brows (Think chemical exfoliant, retinol, etc)
Brow Tint Before and After
Before I started getting brow tinting done, I looked like I had no brows. My brow hair is so light, I always had to fill in my brows. Now that they’re tinted, I really have no upkeep with them except for shaping them (mostly my ends) and setting them in place. It’s amazing what waking up with brows can do! It really makes my complexion pop!
When I first get my brows tinted they’re dark! Not to worry, they start to fade slightly and you’re left with the most perfect, natural looking eyebrow shade. Take a look at my before and after tinting pictures. It’s crazy the difference!
Make sure to do some research and find a professional in your area who can tint your brows. There are different types of tinting (my brow person even does brow henna as an option) and you want to make sure you get the best possible look and application. This isn’t something I’d do at home on my own. I’d be too nervous that I’d stain the area around my brows or I’d get the color wrong. It’s best to leave it to the pros.
This picture shows the process that I go through when I get my brows done. I sometimes do lamination (which helps to relax my brow hairs and they lay down flat) with a brow tint, wax, and shaping. I do not wear any makeup when I go to these appointments as they need a cleansed skin with no products to perform the service.
The tint looks a bit dramatic at first, but after a day or two, the color really does soften and the brows look very natural. To me, the brow tint turns my very blonde brows into a focal point that really defines my face.
My Brow Maintenance Routine
Here are the products I normally have on hand to keep up with my brow routine. Right after tinting, I really don’t have to do much. However, when it’s closer to the time when I need an appointment, I do tend to fill in some sparse hairs and use a gel to fluff them up and keep them in place.

- Brow pencil to fill in and define
- Brow Gel I swear by for non-crusty brows
- Brow Lamination (I do this every eight weeks. I haven’t had this done for a while and I can tell because my brows aren’t laying down flat.)
