Someone asked me recently why I had so much makeup AND why I wear different foundations. I wasn’t sure if I should laugh or be completely offended, but I knew she didn’t mean it to be rude, she was honestly curious. After I explained my reasoning to her, I think she got it, but I also realized this would be a great blog post to discuss!
Why I Wear Different Foundations
The truth is, I do have a lot of makeup. Probably more than most people who aren’t a beauty blogger or working in the beauty industry would have. I don’t really feel I need to justify my beauty “collection” to anyone, but I’d like to explain a little bit about why I do wear different makeup from time to time. Also, realize that this is my job. I review and experience many different brands of products, so that means I will have a rather large beauty stash.
- I have this issue of my skin changing things up on me. Some days it’s more combination than normal. So I have to wear different foundations to make sure I’m providing my skin with the right type of makeup for that day. There are a lot of women who’s skin is the same day after day and if you’re one of those women, I applaud you! You have no idea how lucky you are! For me, some days it’s more on the dry side and others, it’s really oily! This tends to be more of a season thing, but it’s something I have to deal with!
- As the season’s change, your skin might be a little warmer in complexion from being in the sun and more towards the winter, things might be back to pale. I also have the enjoyment of having a hard to match skin tone and I normally have to blend two colors to get the right foundation color for my skin.
- I love makeup. No other explanation necessary!
I thought while we were on the topic of different foundations that I’d actually go over some of my favorites in case you are needing a new one. Summer is here and that means hot and humid weather, so make sure you’re using an appropriate foundation for your skin! I’m thinking I might do a post on primers also because that goes right along with foundations!
Foundations for Dry Skin
For days when my skin is more on the dry side, I prefer a more radiant, dewy foundation. Now, for me, I don’t have dry skin that often so this is an every once in a while occurrence. When I do, I bust out those radiant, dewy foundations that I never seem to be able to wear. It’s a great way to fake healthy, glowing looking skin instead of showing dry patches!
SHOP THE POSTOily/Combination Skin
On days where my skin is more oily, I need something that will help give me a more matte finish. I normally have super oily/combination skin during the summer months. My t-zone is very oily and my foundation seems to disappear when I wear sunglasses and my cheeks are always a concern. So for those months when it’s super hot and humid, I wear a primer that helps keep my oil under control and a mattifying foundation.
Special Occasion Makeup
When you’re going out for a special occasion, or say you’re in a wedding and pictures will be taken, you will need a certain makeup to make sure that the flash photography won’t interfere with your makeup. You see, certain makeup (especially those with an SPF included, etc) will not work with photography. Certain foundations, concealers and setting powders will “flashback” which means it will reflect the light of the cameras flash. You’ve seen those photos with celebrities and their face is slathered with white powder and such. Yep, that’s flashback and we don’t want that to happen!
Makeup for Pool Days
There are certain days where you will need makeup for when you’re going to be hot, sweaty and needing protection from the sun. I love to use a BB/CC Cream for pool days because it’s lightweight, normally hydrating, contain an SPF and they provide a nice coverage for the skin. Do you need makeup for when you go to the pool? That’s a personal choice and if you’re wanting a little bit of coverage and protection, then know that they make products available if you want to use them!
The awesome thing about makeup and especially foundations is that nowadays, skincare is a big part of foundation formulas. So while you’re getting coverage and “color” to the skin, you’re also getting an extra dose of skincare ingredients. Truth is, there are a lot of different foundation formulas out there and I like experimenting with them to see what the latest technology is when it comes to makeup. The formulas that brands are releasing typically tend to be the same as far as trends, but every so often one comes out that is so different that I feel like I have to give it a try!
So yeah, I have a lot of different foundations available to use and I’m in no way saying that you need to have more than one if you don’t want to. It’s totally a personal preference. For me, makeup is fun to play around with and the more the merrier in my opinion!

I love this! As you said, you really don’t have to justify your habits to anyone. I wear a different foundation a couple of times a week based on how my skin is treating me. And I’ve been wearing that ItCosmetics CC cream every pool day!

Exactly! Girl, I love the IT Cosmetics CC Cream. I’ve had my eye on their radiant version!

Ahh, this makes so much sense! I’m overwhelmed by makeup and so many choices. I’m lucky to have one of each item. I always love your recommendations. ?

Thank you! I think makeup doesn’t have to be so confusing, if someone just takes the time to explain it! Always feel free to ask me anything!

This was so informational girl! Even as much as I love makeup I have never really thought about why I use different foundations myself. But I think sometimes I need to switch it up just so that my skin doesn’t get to used to the same old product day in and day out. XO

It’s something to think about!! I mean I like trying new products when they’re released, but I also do need different formulas for different times of the year! Plus, some days a girl wants to be matte and other times I need some glow! HA!

Terrific post idea! I have 4 Bb/Cc creams, 1 stick foundation, 1 solid compact, a cushion I should toss & 2 liquids (plus 2 liquids I don’t wear & should toss). Not too bad!

Thank you! I love the choices you have! You’re covered for all your foundation needs and I think that’s important!!!

This was such a great post! I have a ton of foundations that I use, too. It just depends on my skin at the time and how much coverage I want for that day. Plus I just love the stuff. Haha. I see some on here that I really want to try once I use up some of my stash.

Thank you so much!!

What a great post! You listed a couple of foundations that I’d like to try. The Bare Minerals and Armani (if I can ever get my hands on an ingredients list!) I pwn very few foundations, my options are extremely limited and my skin type whittles the list even lower! hee! hee!
